Elderberry Syrup
Seasonal Item
Fresh batch- made with local & organic Elderberries.
The flowers and berries of the Elder tree (Sambucus nigra) are considered an immune tonic and are used as medicine to support the immune system. Elder is used as a remedy for infections, colds and the flu, and is considered the "medicine chest of the people." It is healing for the upper respiratory system and helps the body to dry up excessive mucus and helps move the mucus out of the body.
The berries are antioxidant rich, full of vitamin C, and support a healthy heart. The creamy, yummy flowers of Elder are considered antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, calms the nervous system, soothes tension and helps the body to break a sweat/fever.
This syrup is full of herbs and spices that are beneficial for your overall health and can support the immune and digestive systems. We use raw honey as the sweetener, which is medicine in its own right. Raw honey is soothing for coughs and sore throats. It’s full of antioxidants, is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.
May you be healthy and strong all season long.
Folk tales
The Elder tree has magical and meaningful folklore around its use as medicine. Some of my favorite tales include, when someone, especially a child, is taken ill you could call upon the elder mother, who lives within in the tree, to aid in healing. And, if you fall asleep under the bow of an elder on midsummers eve, then you may be whisked away to the land of the fairies, or perhaps glimpse the fairy king himself.*
